While you might expect the majority of brides to choose white for their winter wedding, in fact Easy Weddings noted that this is not the most popular colour.
Rather, rich, dark and bold colours were the top picks for winter couples, with most opting for blue, followed by red, pink, then white and purple.
Burgundy will also be a hit this season, especially for grooms, where the bridal site noted that nine per cent of grooms will wear burgundy. Read more wintry wedding ideas, compliments of

But don’t allow them to freeze!
Remember, though, you can’t be overly picky about what they wear when your bridesmaids are outdoors (which they will be, even if it’s just to dash from the car to the ceremony venue). If you’ve opted for glitzy heels that could be hazardous in snow or ice, be okay with them toting along sneakers or boots to get from one place to the next. And obviously, coats are a must—in most parts of the country, it’ll take more than a pashmina to ward off the winter chill.
Do create a cozy reception.
There are plenty of ways to make your reception an inviting space. With the sun setting early, candles will create a romantic glow right from the start of your party. To add ambiance, consider bringing in lush, soft textures. Think: velvet ribbon tied around each napkin or chenille pillows and throws in a lounge area. Our Proposal Story
Although I knew Noah was the one the day I met him, I had no idea as to how or when he would ask me to marry him. So, let me tell you the story…
I was supposed to be in Atlanta the weekend of December 9, 2017, but Atlanta ended up getting 5 inches of snow, and the drive would have taken around 8 to 10 hours. I decided to stay home, just to be on the safe side. Due to work issues, Noah wouldn’t have been able to travel with me, so he was very excited that I was able to stay home. He had already gotten a ring and was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to pop the question.
If you know me, you know I love everything about Christmas. Being as festive as I am, I made a checklist of everything I wanted to do before Christmas. One of the things on that list was ice skating. Noah had texted me earlier in the day and told me that we were going to go to the Holiday on Ice rink in Charlotte. Well, he had much greater plans beyond just ice skating. Without me finding out, he had been texting my mom all day putting together a plan.
We get to the ice rink around 8:30 pm, rent our skates, and start skating around. Some time goes by, and Noah is hating ice skating as much as I knew he would. By this point he is complaining about his feet hurting, and that it’s too cold. So, he asks me to come into the middle so he can rest for a minute. We skate into the middle and he turns around and takes both of my hands into his. He looks at me for a minute and then starts. “Kylie Lundgren, I knew from the day that I met you that you were the one.” He proceeded to get down on one knee and reach for the little black box in his Patagonia pocket.
A rush of heat and uncontrollable emotion radiated all over my body. Tears started flowing; I had butterflies in my stomach and a smile that stretched from ear to ear. When the words “Will you marry me” left his mouth, all I could do was rush into his arms and shake my head yes. I was completely speechless. The whole ice rink began to cheer and congratulate us.
Noah had one more surprise for me. He took my hand and skated over to the side of the rink, where my parents were standing. They got everything on video, so I could watch the happiest moment of my life over and over again. Noah definitely went above and beyond to give me the most special engagement that I could ever ask for.
Finding “The Dress”
After shopping around at a few different dress stores, I established the style of dress that I was going to wear on my big day. It wasn’t the style I’d imagined myself in, and it wasn’t the style I had pinned all over my Pinterest. Before trying dresses on, I saw myself in a mermaid style. After trying a few mermaid gowns on, I realized that being 5-ft-1, I was too short for that type of dress.
I started to try on different styles, and realized that I felt like a bride in the ball gown fit. I found one I liked at a local bridal store, but it didn’t give me that “OMG this is the one” feeling. I started to get overwhelmed and frustrated because I thought I’d never find the right dress.
My Maid of Honor, who is also my cousin Megan, suggested New York Bride & Groom to me. Megan was getting married a few months before me and had just found her dress there. We decided to go together and I literally found 12 dresses that I LOVED. I decided to come back later in the week to show my mom the dozen I liked.
The decision got really hard because I just couldn’t choose between those 12 dresses. I decided to go back out on the floor and grab one more dress just to throw it in the mix. That random dress I grabbed ended up being THE DRESS. I put it on and never wanted to take it off. I came back the following week and bought it.
The girls at New York Bride were so awesome. I really liked that they spent time with each bride. The customer service was so great that I wouldn’t have wanted to buy my dress anywhere else.
The Wedding Day
My mom always expressed the importance of getting married in a church before God, so I decided to have my ceremony at Shiloh Reformed Church. It is a beautiful stone church in Faith, NC. My reception theme was rustic chic, and the barn at Gray Stone Pines in Rockwell, NC was the perfect venue to fit that picture. I loved the fact that we were out in the country in a real barn. It’s what I’d always had in mind.
As someone who really enjoys photography, I wanted my wedding pictures to have a moody feel. Our photographer, Long Yau, really made that happen.
Every year, 40 million people start their wedding planning on Pinterest. The best thing about the site is that it’s filled with FREE ideas. I remember being 12-years old and exploring Pinterest to create my ideal wedding. My tastes changed over the years, but planning on Pinterest never did.
Our Special Moments
I can’t pick one part of the day that was my favorite because the whole experience was amazing. There were a few things that stand out as very special, though. One of them was our first look. We couldn’t decide for a while if we wanted to see each other before the wedding, but I’m so glad we did.
Two hours before the ceremony was to start, we had our first look. I had my father walk me to Noah at the altar, just as if we were in the ceremony. The difference was just our immediate families, close friends and wedding party were there. It was such a special moment. Noah cried, of course, and we got to talk a little before the ceremony started.
Having a first look really took the stress out of the day. It made both of us more comfortable. Instead of being nervous the entire ceremony, we were just happy.
Another special time was when we got to the reception. We separated from the crowd and read our own personal vows to each other. To keep from being nervous, we chose to give these in private and take the traditional vows in front of the crowd.
The whole day was just so special. I wouldn’t change any of it.
Things That Didn’t Go As Planned
In every wedding, there will always be things that just don’t go as planned. We had a few happen to us, but we didn’t let them dampen our day.
The morning of our wedding, I lost my special garters I had custom-made for Noah. Since he’s a firefighter, I had garters made to look like his fire jacket. They even had his last name on the back. Luckily, I had an extra white-lace pair that worked for the garter toss. The missing garters were found when we got home from our honeymoon. Somehow, they had gotten mislaid in the bottom of a moving box.
The second thing that didn’t go as planned was the weather. Big surprise there, right? It was SO HOT the day of our wedding — like in the 90s. (You may be wondering why we picked September if we didn’t want it to be hot. Well, our ideal wedding month was October, but the only Saturday available for the next year and a half was September 1 — and it was only available because another couple had just canceled. So, we took the date and went on with it.)
In addition to the heat, it also rained during the first part of our reception. One positive thing about this was the pictures were great because it was overcast.
All together, even though some things didn’t go as planned, our wedding day really couldn’t have been more perfect!

Here are some bridal shopping tips to get you started:
Set a Budget
Before you get carried away Pinning all those diamond encrusted wedding dresses, take a look at your wedding budget and set a number you’re willing to spend on your gown. This will not only narrow your choices (such an endless amount of beautiful gowns out there!) but also help you hone your expectations in the dress shopping process.
Start Shopping 9-12 Months Ahead (If You Can)
Believe it or not, gowns typically take anywhere from 4-10 month to be made. Factor in shipping times (is your dress coming from Paris?) alterations and multiple fittings – in the end, your gown could take up to 12 months to be ready.
Madison James, style MJ366: This decadent silk Mikado wedding dress features a detachable train for the ultimate style flexibility. Crystal beading sparkles along the neckline. Organza Satin catches the light with this fitted silhouette. Available colors: Ivory/Champagne/Silver. Available sizes: 2-32.
Defining Your Wedding Vibe
Many brides decide to let their wedding dress dictate the theme or style of their wedding, while others already have those details in mind and try to choose a wedding gown accordingly. Successful shopping has a lot to do with ones’ ability to “go with the flow” and remain open-minded. If brides or bridesmaids have their heart set on a particular wedding dress and are stubborn when they try it on and it turns out not to be “the one,” our team can help you navigate potential contenders until the magical dress of your dreams becomes reality! Read more about defining wedding style below:
Buzzwords: traditional, timeless, elegant
What it looks like: Classic weddings are usually more on the formal side—they’re clean-cut affairs. Which means there may be a champagne cocktail hour, chargers set at each place setting and understated (but beautiful) décor like tealight candles or arrangements made up of a single floral variety.
Venue idea: ballroom
Rustic can mean a few things, but we prefer to streamline it with a simple farm-to-table baseline. Natural textures like wood and stone, organic paper products and fresh food are the staples of this theme.
Buzzwords: local, minimal, raw
What it looks like: Low, sprawling centerpieces with flowers that look fresh from the field dress up bare wood tables. Mixed glassware styles add a hint of glamour, but the eclectic collection will still feel hand-curated.
Venue idea: renovated barn
Kenneth Winston Couture, style 1756: Lose yourself in this romantic ballgown with layers of flowing tulle. Corded Alencon Lace harmonizes with Patterned Tulle, Satin and English Net to create a ravishing silhouette. Enjoy the intricate details of this dress that are hallmark features of a Kenneth Winston wedding gown. Available colors: Ivory/Silver (pictured above) and White/Silver. Available sizes: 2-28.
If you’re still in need of advice for selecting the perfect wedding theme, this informative article should help you pull your thoughts together:
Pick a place.
Your wedding is a party, but it’s also a setting. So choosing a location that’s special to you is a great jumping-off point for your wedding theme. Places to consider: The beach, wine country, the tropics, the forest, an old European city, a trendy American city. If there’s no particular place that feels right, other broad scene-setters, like seasons, work.
Pick a mood.
True, Disney World is a place (and what a wonderful place it is), but it’s hard to pull off a wedding themed around it because it’s designed to be a destination for kids. That can come off as corny if you nod to it at a party that’s celebrating something as adult as love. If you adore Disney, why not design your wedding around a similar theme, like whimsy or fantasy.
